Questions about kitesurfing packages in Sri Lanka

What is included in a kitesurfing package at MKS?
All packages include accommodation (B&B), IKO kitesurfing lessons, walkie-talkie coaching on the water, boat transfers to the teaching area, a rescue boat during sessions and the IKO certificate. The number of lesson hours and accommodation type varies by package.
What is the difference between semi-private and private lessons?
Semi-private lessons mean 1 instructor with 2 riders — which is what all couple and group packages include. It's a great balance of personal attention and value. Private lessons (1 instructor to 1 rider) are available as an upgrade for €45/hour. If you need faster progression or have a specific goal, private lessons are worth it.
Can I extend my stay or add extra lesson hours?
Yes. Additional nights cost €17.50/person B&B. Extra lesson hours cost €30/hour semi-private or €45/hour private. Many riders end up extending — just let us know when you arrive or contact us in advance if you already know you want more time.
I'm travelling solo — are there packages for me?
Yes, we have a full page of packages for solo travellers with different accommodation options (dorm rooms, private bungalows with or without AC). Solo packs include the same coaching quality and the MKS community is a great place to meet people.
Do I need previous kitesurfing experience?
No. All our packages are suitable for complete beginners. The Discovery Course is designed for first-timers who want to try kitesurfing. The Kite & Learn packages are designed to give you serious progression — many students reach independence in one trip, but it depends on your ability and wind conditions.
What level will we reach after the course?
It depends on several factors — your natural ability, wind conditions and how quickly each person adapts. After 9 hours of semi-private lessons, many students can ride downwind comfortably in both directions. Some manage to ride upwind and get the IKO certificate — but every student progresses differently. Progress is not guaranteed in a fixed number of hours.
We started semi-private lessons together but want to split and have separate instructors — is that possible?
Yes, we are very flexible. If you decide mid-course to split into private lessons, we assign two instructors and two sets of equipment. We deduct the semi-private hours not yet used from the pack (at €30/hour per person) and count the remaining hours as private lessons (at €45/hour per person). Just let us know and we sort it out.
We've started the package but there's no wind — will we be charged for the full pack?
No. If there's no wind, we only charge for the nights and the lesson hours you've actually done on the water. We never charge for sessions that couldn't happen due to lack of wind. No wind = no lesson charge.
