🌿 Exclusive summer spot: Wilpattu National Park
In summer, Margarita Kite School is the only school that takes riders to kite by the shores of Wilpattu National Park — one of the largest and oldest national parks in Sri Lanka. Wild, untouched, and with conditions that make it one of the most memorable sessions you'll ever have. Not on any other school's map.
Available summer season only (May–October). Ask us about this trip.

🏠 MKS home spot
Kalpitiya Lagoon — the main learning spot in Sri Lanka
This is our daily playground and the most popular kite spot in Sri Lanka. Wide, shallow and flat — everything a beginner needs, and enough space for advanced riders to progress. Our kite centre is right here, which means rescue boat and walkie-talkie coaching are always available.
Beginner
Kappalady Lagoon — shallow, calm and beginner-friendly
A small flat-water lagoon that works in summer only. Shallow, calm and good for beginners learning the basics. Several schools are based here so it can get crowded. In winter the wind direction is less reliable and it's not suitable for wingfoil due to limited space.

⛵ MKS kite trips
Dream Spot — all-year playground for progression
One of the most popular kite trips from Margarita Kite School. A 15–20 minute boat ride takes you to a spacious area with flat and slightly choppy sections — versatile and fun in both seasons. Wind is strong in summer, reaching 35 knots on strong days. In winter, it builds around noon and eases by 4:30pm.

⭐ Best in Sri Lanka
Vella Island — the legendary Sri Lanka kite destination
Widely considered the best kite spot in Sri Lanka. Strong, steady wind 5–8 knots more than Kalpitiya Lagoon, long speed runs, and small flat-water lagoons formed inside the island in 2025. One rule at Vella: stay upwind. The island sits at the edge of Wilpattu National Park — if you drift downwind, you're heading into the jungle. We tell students the crocodiles will get them. We're only half joking. Ride here with a 7m kite and know what you're doingd inside the island since 2025. Off-shore conditions mean this is strictly advanced riders only — always with boat support. If you kite here during a full moon, you will never forget it.

Ippantivu (Mini Vella) — hidden gem in Puttalam Lagoon
Also known as Mini Vella, this hidden spot inside Puttalam Lagoon was discovered and explored by the Margarita team. Thanks to a venturi effect between the islands, wind here often feels stronger than elsewhere. Flat water and unique conditions. Note: the sandbar has been shrinking since 2025 — always check before going.

Donkey Point — waves and ocean riding
About 10 km south of Kalpitiya, Donkey Point is the area's main wave spot. Small to medium waves with steady cross on-shore wind — the go-to for strapless riders and anyone who wants to mix it up after days on the flat lagoon. Also great for wingfoil. Keep distance from the nearby military base when riding close to shore.
Advanced expedition
Adam's Bridge (Mannar) — remote adventure kiting
A chain of sandbanks and small islands that once connected Sri Lanka to India. Remote, wild, and with a landscape unlike anything else in the country. This is expedition-style kiting — no facilities, exposed conditions, for experienced riders only. If you're looking for an adventure that few kiters have done, this is it.
