Wingfoil spots in Sri Lanka — quick comparison
One of the key advantages of wingfoil over kite: you need less wind to ride, which means more spots are accessible and more days on the water.

Kalpitiya Lagoon — the best wingfoil spot to start and progress
Flat, warm and shallow — everything a wingfoiler needs. The lagoon in front of MKS works in both seasons and, crucially, it works at wind speeds where kites can't fly. If you're on a foil you can get sessions in 8–10 knots that would be a rest day for kiters. That's a huge advantage.
The deeper sections of the lagoon are ideal for higher speed foiling and for riders who want more room. The shallower areas near the shore are perfect for learning and for recovering from falls without getting hurt.
No experience needed. We teach from zero — wing control, board, foil. Step by step at your pace.

Donkey Point — the wave wingfoil experience
About 10 km south of Kalpitiya, Donkey Point is where you go when you want waves under your foil. Small to medium ocean swell with cross-shore wind — genuinely fun for intermediate and advanced wingfoilers who want something different from the flat lagoon.
The combination of wave energy and foil gives you a completely different feeling — you're pumping through swell, linking waves, using the ocean's energy. It's where wingfoil starts to feel like surfing but better.

Dream Spot — flat water with more space
A 15–20 minute boat ride north of the camp. A large open lagoon with flat and slightly choppy sections — perfect for wingfoilers who want more space than Kalpitiya offers on busy days. Works in both seasons and is great for longer runs and jibing practice.

Vella Island — advanced wingfoil at one of the best spots in Asia
Strong side-shore wind, flat water lagoons that formed inside the island in 2025 and an unspoiled setting that's hard to find anywhere else. For advanced wingfoilers who want a high-performance session away from everything. The same spot that's legendary for kite — but the wingfoil experience here is something completely different.
Why Kalpitiya is one of the best wingfoil destinations in Asia
Most top wingfoil destinations have one good spot. Kalpitiya has a whole ecosystem — flat lagoon, wave spot, open ocean and remote islands, all accessible from the same base. That's rare.
And the wingfoil advantage here is real: because you can fly in lighter winds than a kite, Kalpitiya becomes almost a year-round destination for foilers. April and November — months that kiteboarders largely write off — are perfectly rideable on a wing and foil.
- Flat lagoon right at the school — no transfers, immediate access
- Works from 8–10 knots — more days on the water than kite
- Wave spot at Donkey Point — 20 minutes from camp
- Almost year-round conditions including shoulder months
- Warm water all year — no wetsuit, no neoprene
- School on site — lessons and rental in one place
